Finally... Prostitute Coming This Week

Once I'm done agonizing over the final master of Prostitute, a DRM free mp3 version of the EP will be uploaded to my server. It will be available FOR FREE on http://www.function13online.com. The digital release features 6 tracks, including two remixes (Nordschalcht and Roswell 47/Pulse State).

If you would prefer to pay for it, it will be available on iTunes and Amazon.com. I don't have any idea when those will be available. I hear iTunes can take up to two months to approve new albums. I am going through an independent distributor, so hopefully that will speed up the process.

Physical copies (in CD-R format with different art) will be available for $10. These come with stickers and I'll even autograph it if you're into that sort of thing.

The remaining Prostitute remixes will be the next thing to tackle. I was very lucky to have some super-hot remixes by artists like Caustic, TERRORFAKT and Chiasm contribute.

I would like to take this moment to apologize to all the people whom have helped me put these releases together. I'm not making excuses, but my inability to be happy with any music I write coupled with the stressful separation between my ex-wife and I certainly played huge roll in delaying this release. Specifically, I would like to apologize to all the remixers (you know who you are), Marc Church (he "producted" several drafts of the cover art while I constantly changed things around), and TJ Bunyak (for constant support despite me being so up and down about this project). I let a lot of people down and I'm not afraid to admit that.

The sudden rush of support after announcing that I was 'killing function13 for good' was refreshing. The most recent wave of compliments and encouragement has been nothing less than humbling. Thanks to everyone, especially my friends and a certain someone, for pushing me to move forward with function13.

Cheers,
Josh

I'm Up on Beatport

I found out today that one of my remixes for Hanky Panky (Detroit house) is available for download on Beatport.com. This is fun, exciting news for me. See the Josh.f13 remix for a preview.

Hey, WTF!

I know I haven't update this thing in awhile. I thought I'd take a quick moment to let you know why.

#1. An associate and I are working on a big website for people interested and involved in Metro Detroit nightlife. We're pushing for a April launch date and there's a lot of work still to be done.

#2. I released the Click Point record, Aon part 1 on Bottle Imp Productions. It's a free download, so check it out!

#3. I was working on some pretty hot remixes for Laurent & Lewis. One is currently unfinished while the other has been handed to Laurent himself for some touch-ups. I'll let you know when they're ready to be downloaded.

Other news:

I've essentially decided to give-up working on function13 material. While I love the music I've created, I can't seem to get any traction when it comes to getting it appropriately mixed and released. Nor does there seem to be any real interest in the record by the music community.

With that said, I am considering handing off the material to some online presence (like Bottle Imp, for example) come summer time.

***

Yes, I have a twitter account! You can friend me or send messages to @function13.

***

I recently DJed a show at The Lair in Warren, MI. It was a blast! I have been seriously considering picking up more gigs around town.

That's it for now. Cheers!

Best Music of 2008

While I discovered a ton of great music in 2008, only a handful of those records actually came out last year. Without further ado.

Does It Offend You, Yeah?

You Have No Idea What You're Getting Yourself Into

Does If Offend You, Yeah?'s quirky blend of pop, post-punk and electro is incredibly infectious. James Rushent's tongue-in-cheek blend of pop culture references over the high energy guitar, percussion and electronics make this an incredibly infectious dance record. A must have!

Deadmau5

Random Album Title

Not so much a record, rather a collection of Deadmau5's previous singles (with some new production here and there), Random Album Title definitely displays Deadmau5's talent for electronic music production. It is easily one of the most well recorded and mixed dance records ever. Not only that, but its delightfully funky. Fans of progressive and deep house should check it out.

Edd Sidebottom, 4/08/1981 - 11/27/08

EDIT:
Edd's Memorial Service

1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7th.

The Sentimental Lady
36509 Jefferson Ave (corner of Crocker Blvd)
Harrison Township, MI.

Edd Sidebottom, I wish we hadn't grown apart. Of course, it's easy to say that now that you're gone.

I'll have a drink or two in your memory tonight.

I wish the best for his the wife and children he left behind.

Edd grew up next door to me and subsequently, we were best friends up til high school. We slowly drifted apart during that time as our interests and friends intersected less and less.

Regardless, shortly after high school I invited him to play drums for my industrial band, f1lam3nt. He was eager to participate and eventually ended up writing vocals for the track, Betrayed, and even played keyboards during a set at Jacoby's (now 313.Jac).

f1lam3nt didn't last long (enough). Edd went on to play in Scape Film's Falling Apart, as Georgie (see: cast). Shortly after that, he fronted the local rock band, Brink of Life. He maintained that bands Myspace page as his personal blog.

I always knew Edd to be a very creative and caring person. If I can find any more information, I'll post it here. AT THIS TIME: I cannot find any obituaries.

I grabbed the above photo from gooddave and added the text. Thanks, Dave.
